PEI Companies Dominate Canada New Media Funding in Atlantic Region
(Charlottetown) Prince Edward Island dominates the other Atlantic Provinces in the latest round of funding from the Canada New Media Fund. Six out of the eight projects from Atlantic Canada receiving funding for 2009-2010 are from PEI companies.
Island video game developers Bight Interactive, Other Ocean and Telos International were all successful, some for multiple projects. In Atlantic Canada, Nova Scotia companies received funding for two projects. No projects were funded from New Brunswick or Newfoundland.
Canada Media Fund Consultation Process Announced
The Canadian Television Fund has announced the process they are going to follow to figure out how to set up the Canada Media Fund. The CMF is a new fund that combines the old Canadian Television Fund and the Canada New Media Fund. The document describing this process is attached. Part of the process is a series of focus groups they will be holding across the country this fall. The Charlottetown focus group is scheduled for September 23.

In the wake of yesterday’s federal budget, the Canadian Interactive Alliance / l’Alliance interactive canadienne (CIAIC) is pleased to see that the Telefilm Canada New Media Fund has been renewed and made a permanent part of the Conservative government’s spending plans.
